Research group logo

The mission of the group is the investigate important biomoleculaar systems and processes at the level of individual molecules. In our philosophy mechanical forces play a central, deterministic role in cellular and molecular biological phenomena.

Research areas

Numerous biomolecular systems are investigated: cytoskeleton, sarcomeric proteins (actin, myosin, titin), collagen, von Willebrand Factor, fibrin, DNA, lipid systems (supported lipid bilayers, liposomes, cochleates), amyloid (amyloid-beta, transthyretin). We employ an arsenal of single-molecule tools, such as AFM, optical tweezeres, TIRF and STED microscopy.
