Biophysics for students of physiotherapy

Brief description of the subject

The goal of the subject is to give the knowledge of physics necessary for the physiotherapy. The subject describes the special physical properties of living body tissues and the methods for the examination of them. It gives the physical foundations of diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Presents the properties of electromagnetic radiations, their interactions with the human body and their therapeutic applications. The properties of ultrasound and its diagnostic and therapeutic applications, the methods of heat-, and electrotherapy.

The aim of subject in the student’s education:

The students will obtain knowledge about

-         the methods and basic concepts of biophysical examinations

-         the properties of electromagnetic radiations and their interactions with human organism

-         the absorption of gamma- and x-radiation, the basic principles of radiation protection

- the principles of diagnostic and therapeutic applications of ultrasound, the application of heat and electric field in therapy
