Laboratory practices

Students have to prepare for the laboratory practices by reading the corresponding chapter of the Laboratory Manual
The condition for participation on the laboratory practices is that one has to pass the moodle test from the given topic before the practice. The test contains 10 questions and 50 % should be achieved. One can try the test no matter how many times until you pass.

Rules for lab reports :

1.      Every lab report is considered as a written test, where three types of grades can be given: „Accepted” „Correction needed” or „Not accepted” .

2.      The lab. report should be done by filling the excel sheet downloaded from the homepage of the department.

3.      The processing of data can be accepted only if it is based on the data measured by the student.

4.      Only the tasks listed in the homepage are required for a certain measurement. The lab report must be uploaded during the lab.

5.      The teacher will show, what is the mistake or missing part in the lab report. 

6.  The successful completion (min. 50%) of the Moodle test before the lab. The test can be attempted any time during the week before the lab, from anywhere.

Missed measurements

Participation in the practical lessons is compulsory. No more than three absences from practices are allowed for any reason, otherwise the semester will not be credited. The missed measurements should be done with another group during the 4-5 weeks cycle of laboratory practices if possible. (One should ask for the agreement of the teacher of own group and the other group.)

Students must write a lab. report for each measurement in excel. The file to be filled can be downloaded from the homepage of the Department. The students should prepare for the measurement by reading the related chapter of the laboratory manual.

In case if one has more than three “Not accepted” lab reports the signature for the semester is denied.

Conditions for signature

1. Participation on at least 75 % of the practices, (in case of more than 3 absences the signature for the semester is denied.)
2. Acceptance of the lab. reports. If one has more than 3 „not accepted” lab. reports, the signature is denied. The lab reports must be uploaded to the website at the end of the practice.
3. Successful completion (min 50%) of the Moodle tests before the labs.

In case if one has more than three “Not accepted” lab reports the signature for the semester is denied.

 

Midterm test (knowledge test)

  • On the 14th week (last week of the semester), at the beginning of the practice, students will take a moodle knowledge test. The test is composed of excel lab data evaluations, the weekly test questions and calculations from the homeworks. Who scores at least 75% on this test will be exempted from the written moodle test on the exam. The exemption will remain valid for the retake exam, too.
  • During the test formula collection and calculator can be used.
  • The test will contain 3 excel task from each semester (alltogether 6 excel + 14 
  • If one achieves favour it does not mean grade 5 for the exempted question and does not mean successful exam in any case just the exam will be simplified.
  • The midterm test can not be repeated or taken later, it can be written only with the student’s own group during the practice.

Exams

The exam starts with a moodle test.  Of this questions for the weekly preparedness test questions, the calculation questions issued during the year tasks, as well as questions similar to the evaluation of the minutes. One for the latter dataset must be downloaded and analyzed. According to the modification of Study and Examination Rules in March 2025, everybody can go to the oral exam. The examiner will know the result of moodle test and takes it into account in the final grade. With the help of a computer, we will draw 6  theoretical questions that may contain the theoretical background of the lab practices, too.

The theoretical part of all labs included in the program of the semester (even those missing due to the educational breaks) is included in the material of the colloquium and examination. The absence of the student, but even the official educational break does not entitle the student to not know the material of the lab. You need to know the theoretical background and data processing of all of the labs.

Our teaching program is evolving continuously. Focused on the general objective of meeting the requirements of the medical curriculum, the courses are also intended to provide specific medical biophysics training.
Todays students will be the physicians of the oncoming decades. In selecting and highlighting topics of study, the first viewpoint is scientific foresight: the knowledge should be conveyed which must be pertinent to ensure first-class professional competence while keeping abreast of the most recent development in the field of study. Our aim is not only the teaching of a specific body of knowledge but also the development of the exact scientific method and concrete problem-solving abilities.

We call your attention, that the students must show their ID card (containing photo) before the exam. Without it the exam can not be started.

Competition on Medical biophysics/Biophysicswill be held on May 5 (Monday) at 6:30 p.m. in Issekutz (brown) lecture hall in the NET building.  Its duration is 2 hours.

Condition for participation: grade 4 or 5 on the semifinal exam.
  Form of it: written test containing problems and theoretical questions.

   Favours of exam:

The persons getting at least 50 % from the calculation part do not have to do the moodle test on the final exam, instead of it only an excel task is given to student, that should be cone and the theoretical background of it  should be delineated.
The persons getting at least 50 % of the possible points also in the theoretical part, do not have to take the theoretical questions on the final exam. In this case only the excel task remains. We call the attention, that in this case the exam is not formal and the student must be prepared well in order to get good grade.

- The persons achieving the best results (winners of first, second and third places) - if the result in both parts is at least 50 %- will get some reward and they do not have to take any question at the final exam (they get 5).

If somebody achieves  at least 50 % in both theoretical and calculation parts of the competition and achieves at least 75 % in the midterm on the 14th week of the semester, the favours are added up and the student will get full exemption from the final exam. In this case one has to register to an exam day in the Neptun and will get 5 on that day.

We call your attention that during the competition one can use calculator with max. 2 lines display only. The formula collection can be used during the competition. We will give it to the participants.
