Rethinking PhD Supervision – Presentation by our colleagues at the EUniWell-Columbia Conference in New York
2026. március 17
Between February 22–26, 2026, the first joint transatlantic conference of the EUniWell alliance—comprising 12 European universities—and Columbia University Teachers College was held in New York, titled International Conference on Bridging Well-being and (Teacher) Education: A Globalised Perspective to Science Diplomacy. The main focus of the conference was the reshaping of education, with particular regard to the increasing global teacher shortage, the diverse challenges faced by educators, and improving the well-being and retention of both teachers and students. The opening days featured a series of science diplomacy caucuses at the UN Headquarters, aimed at initiating the implementation of research results into practice. In the following days, participants attended presentations and interactive sessions showcasing scientific achievements and international best practices at the Columbia University Teachers College campus.
Semmelweis University, an active member of EUniWell, was represented by a delegation from the Faculty of Medicine, the András Pető Faculty, the Faculty of Health Public Service, and the Directorate of International Relations and Alumni, through presentations, workshops, and intensive networking.
Our institute was represented by our colleagues, Tamás Bozó and Ádám Orosz, with their presentation titled Rethinking the Master–Apprentice Relationship in Doctoral Education: Toward Partnership, Well-Being, and Systemic Change. Although the authors originally intended to explore this topic in a workshop format—which had to be modified for organizational reasons—the long and lively discussion sparked by the audience's questions and comments after the presentation provided ample compensation.
Even during a snowstorm in the off-season, New York’s vibrant cultural scene made it the perfect setting for the conference.
