Exemption

If one wants to get an exemption from the subject based on the previous studies must give the application to the tutor until Sept. 13. The transcript (original or validated copy) and the detailed topic list of the relevant subjects should be attached. If there is a proper overlap between the topics (at least 75%) we check the knowledge of applicants by a written test containing multiple choice questions at the beginning of the second week of the semester.
The attached sample test shows the style of questions. The real test will contain 40 questions.

Biophysics Sample Test

Laboratory practices

Students have to prepare for the laboratory practices by reading the corresponding chapter of the Laboratory Manual

The form for the lab report that can be used in case of error in the network can be downloaded here:

Lab Report

The schedule of laboratory practices can be found here:

http://biofiz.semmelweis.hu/upload/file/GYAKRE2020z.doc

Rules for lab reports :

1.      Every lab report is considered as a written test, where three types of grades can be given: „Accepted” „Correction needed” or „Not accepted” .

2.      The lab. report should be done by filling the excel sheet downloaded from the homepage of the department.

3.      The processing of data can be accepted only if it is based on the data measured by the student.

4.      Only the tasks listed in the homepage are required for a certain measurement. The lab report must be uploaded during the lab.

5.      The teacher will show, what is the mistake or missing part in the lab report.

Missed measurements

Participation in the practical lessons is compulsory. No more than three absences from practices are allowed for any reason, otherwise the semester will not be credited. The missed measurements should be done with another group during the 4 weeks cycle of laboratory practices if possible. (One should ask for the agreement of the teacher of own group and the other group.)

The timetable of the Department can be downloaded here: http://biofiz.semmelweis.hu/upload/file/orarend_2020_z.pdf

Students must write a lab. report for each measurement in excel. The file to be filled can be downloaded from the homepage of the Department. The students should prepare for the measurement by reading the related chapter of the laboratory manual.

In case if one has more than three “Not accepted” lab reports the signature for the semester is denied.

Conditions for signature

1. At least 50 points in the test in Mathematical and physical bases of medical biophysics.
2. Participation on at least 75 % of the practices, (in case of more than 3 absences the signature for the semester is denied.)
3. Acceptance of the lab. reports. If one has more than 3 „not accepted” lab. reports, the signature is denied. The lab reports must be uploaded to the website at the end of the practice.

In very special cases of more than 3 absences, just the head of the Department can make a decision about the exceptional signature.

Exams

The exam is oral. The students get questions generated randomly both from laboratory practices and theory.

Formula collection can be used on the exams. It can be downloaded here: Formula Collection

We call the attention that we do not give permission to take Medical biophysics II. without passing Medical biophysics I.

A tantárgy feladata az orvosképzés céljainak megvalósításában

Our teaching program is evolving continuously. Focused on the general objective of meeting the requirements of the medical curriculum, the courses are also intended to provide specific medical biophysics training.
Today's students will be the physicians of the oncoming decades. In selecting and highlighting topics of study, the first viewpoint is scientific foresight: the knowledge should be conveyed which must be pertinent to ensure first-class professional competence while keeping abreast of the most recent development in the field of study. Our aim is not only the teaching of a specific body of knowledge but also the development of the exact scientific method and concrete problem-solving abilities.

Everybody should prepare an ID card to the exam. In the absence of ID card the exam can not be started. We call your attention, that during the exams calculator with max. 2 lines display only.

We call your attention, that there is no possibility to increase the number of exam days or places during the exam period, since we teach students on 3 faculties and 3 languages.

Semifinal topic list:

Topic list

Rules of the online exam:

Only one device can be used for the exam. This device is preferably a computer or if it is not available, a tablet could be use (if it could provide the technical conditions as detailed below).

1. The device has to provide good internet connection, video and audio input. In case of disconnecting from zoom during the exam more then a few seconds, it is considered as the student did not attend.

2. The camera must be switched on during the whole exam. It has to provide the video if you are working in Excel (or corresponding program) too.

3. Headphones or earphones are not allowed for the students during the exam.

4. Sharing the desktop is obligatory during the whole exam. You have to share the full screen, not only a program.

5. Besides the zoom application, only the formula collection (found below), the Excel (or a corresponding other program), the basic calculator can be opened during the exam.

formula collection

Only this pdf version of the formula collection is allowed, the printed version is forbidden.

6. Your face, chest, and hands must be visible on the camera during the whole exam.

7. You can use a blank white paper a pen and a not programable (max. 2 row of display) calculator during the exam. These should be shown to the camera at the beginning of the exam.

8. You must show your picture ID registered by the English Secretariat to the camera at the beginning of the exam.

The exams will be recorded and saved for 3 days.

On the day of the exam each examiner will create separate zoom meetings. On the morning of the exam day the students will be assigned randomly to the examiners. The assignments will be posted on our webpage to the documents, where the approximate starting time (Budapest local time), and the zoom meeting ID of the examiners will be presented for each Neptun code.

Examination procedure

The exam is oral via zoom with 2 examiners. In the exam one have to answer 4 Lab/Calculation tasks and 6 theory questions. (The topics are drawn from a random generator in the bifilab system and then displayed individually.)

The first question contain a graphical representation/canclusion of measurement data (you can check and practice the Excel sample tasks on the bifilab system - on the exam the measured dataset will be randomized, but the structure, questions will be the same). This MS Excel file will be generated be the examiner and sended via zoom chat. You have to be able to download, open and use the file.*

The second question will relate to the received Excel's topic and will be asked directly by the examiner.

The 3rd and 4th questions will be from the list of Lab topics (exatly the same as written in the topic list) and Calculations (same words, but wtih different numbers).

If the candidate has serious deficiencies in the first 4 questions, the examination cannot be continued.

The other 6 questions will be from the list of Theory topics (exatly the same as written in the topic list)

You will not get all the questions at the same time, but will always be asked the next after a successful answer. After a brief reflection on the topic, you should begin with the answer, after which the examiners can ask further questions (both examiners can ask questions throughout the examination).

Consultations in the exam period will be on the following days at 3 p.m.:
Dec. 14, 21,28
Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25:
The zoom meeting ID will be given here before the consultation.
Zoom link for the consultation on Jan. 25:

Meeting ID: 99840049984
Passcode:  799717

Sample excel sheets for the exam are available on bifilab.semmelweis.hu/bifilab page.

* We recommend to use desktop version of MS Excel. The University provides you this possibility. If you have technical problems, please check https://seka.semmelweis.hu/en/info/o365

Competition on Medical biophysics/Biophysicswill be held on May 13 (Thursday) at 6:00 p.m. in Szent-Györgyi lecture hall.

Condition for participation: grade 4 or 5 on the semifinal exam.
Form of it: written test containing problems and theoretical questions.

   Favours of exam:

The persons getting at least 50 % from the calculation part do not have to do the calculation on the final exam.
The persons getting at least 50 % of the possible points also in the theoretical part, do not have to take the theoretical questions on the final exam. In this case only the practice question has to be answered (together with its theoretical background). We call the attention, that in this case the exam is not formal and the student must be prepared well in order to get good grade.

- The persons achieving the best results (winners of first, second and third places) will get some reward and they do not have to take any question at the final exam (they get 5).

The winners will not be determined separately for the different faculties.

We call your attention that during the competition one can use calculator with max. 2 lines display only.

The form and possible favours are valid in case if the competition will be held with personal presence. If it will be online, the form and favours may change.
